1.)    Change the Batteries in your smoke detector ( s ) 2 times a year.
2.)    Test your alarms to be sure they work.
3.)    Be absolutely sure your stove and oven are off when you are done cooking.
4.)    If you have a cooking fire, NEVER put water on it. It will get worse. Put a lid on what ever is burning or use
baking soda or flour.
5.)    Clean the lint screen of your dryer with soapy water once a year to clear the screen of tiny particles from the fabric
sheets we use.
6.)    Many electrical fires start from old frayed wiring. If you have an old cord on a light, appliance, or extension cord,
carefully unplug it and replace it.
7.)    Another common electrical fire starts from a group of electric cords plugged into a “splitter” in one outlet. The
power being used from all those cords overloads the splitter causing the cords to arc and begin a fire.
8.)    The burning of trash is against the law in South Carolina . This seemingly simple fire can end up burning more than
just trash. “IF” the trash fire gets away from you, a SC Forestry Official may even fine you.
9.)    When burning your yard debris, please keep the surrounding area free of all burnable items to help prevent the
unexpected spread of your fire. Keep a water hose turned on and ready while you are burning and keep a shovel with
you. You can sling dirt on the fire to put it out. Remember to never leave your fire unattended.
